Privacy policy

Effective October 1, 2026

The short version

  • Your packages are stored in your browser. PackageTrack has no servers that receive them, and no accounts.
  • To check a package, your browser asks that package's carrier directly. Nothing goes through us.
  • The extension has no analytics and no ads. This website counts visits with Cloudflare Web Analytics, which doesn't use cookies or track you across sites.
  • We don't sell, share, or transfer your data to anyone.

The extension

What it stores

For each package you add, the extension keeps:

  • the tracking number, carrier, and the name you gave it;
  • its latest status, status message, and estimated delivery date, if the carrier gives one;
  • its position in your list.

This list is kept in your browser's extension sync storage. If you've turned on sync in your browser (for example, signed in to Chrome with sync on), your browser copies the list to your other browsers through its own sync service, under your browser provider's terms. We never receive it.

On your device only, it also keeps a short history of each package's status changes (the status and when it was seen) and a count of unseen updates for the toolbar badge.

Deleting a package deletes its history. Uninstalling the extension removes all of it from your browser.

Who it talks to

To check a package, the extension contacts that carrier's own tracking website from your browser, the same way visiting the site yourself would. It does this every 10 minutes while your browser is open (skipping packages already delivered), and whenever you press refresh. The carriers it can contact:

  • USPS: tools.usps.com
  • UPS: ups.com
  • FedEx: fedex.com
  • DHL: dhl.com
  • OnTrac and LaserShip: ontrac.com
  • Canada Post: canadapost-postescanada.ca
  • China EMS: api.ems.com.cn

Each request includes the tracking number. Like any website visit, the carrier also receives standard request information, such as your IP address, browser type, and any cookies you already have with that carrier, under the carrier's own privacy policy.

Some carriers only show tracking on a full web page. For those, the extension opens the carrier's tracking page in a background tab, inside a collapsed tab group named “PackageTrack” at the end of your tab strip. It reads only the status text from that page, then closes the tab. It never reads any other tab for this.

Right-click to add

When you select text on a page, right-click, and choose Add to PackageTrack, the extension reads the text you selected and shows its add form on that page, prefilled with it. That's the only time it reads a page you're on, and it reads only your selection.

Notifications and uninstalling

Delivery notifications are created by your browser on your device. When you uninstall, your browser opens a short page on our website. That's an ordinary page visit: it doesn't include anything about your packages.

Permissions

  • Carrier websites (the list above): to check your packages' tracking pages.
  • storage: to keep your package list and its history in your browser.
  • alarms: to check your packages every 10 minutes.
  • notifications: to tell you when a package is delivered.
  • contextMenus, activeTab, and scripting: for right-click to add, and to read the status text from a carrier's tracking page.
  • offscreen: to read carrier pages in a hidden extension page, without opening a tab.
  • tabGroups: to keep the carrier tabs it does need tucked into one collapsed group.

It doesn't read your browsing history or any page you visit, other than as described above.

This website

packagetrack.com is a static website. It has no accounts, sets no cookies, and shows no ads. It's hosted by Cloudflare, which processes standard request information, such as IP addresses, to deliver and protect the site, under Cloudflare's privacy policy. We don't use that information to identify you.

Website analytics

To learn which pages are useful, the website uses Cloudflare Web Analytics. When a page loads, a small Cloudflare script reports the page address, the page that linked you here, your browser and device type, your country, and how quickly the page loaded. It doesn't use cookies or local storage, doesn't fingerprint your browser, and doesn't follow you to other sites. We see only totals, never a profile of any one person. Analytics runs on this website only; the extension never reports anything.

Our commitments

We use the data the extension handles only to track your packages. We don't sell it, transfer it to third parties, use it for advertising, or use it to determine creditworthiness or for lending.

Children

PackageTrack isn't directed at children under 13, and we don't knowingly collect anyone's personal information.

Changes

If anything here changes, we'll update this page and its date before the change takes effect.
